Dambai (O/R) Oct 18, GNA – Nana Solomon Amanibo IV, Paramount Chief of Kabre in the Oti Region, has accused Ghana’s two major political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of recognising Kabre communities only during election periods.
He said the communities also face discrimination and denial of basic rights and amenities at other times.
He called on the parties to see the communities as Ghanaians and attend to their need as other communities across the nation.
The Paramount Chief made the call at the inauguration of Asendema Association, the inauguration marking a new era of cooperation and collective progress for the Kabre people.
Nana Amanibo specifically cited the registration process for Ghana cards, where he said community members were allegedly denied due to being labeled as Togolese by the NDC and NPP.
The paramount chief was surprised that his people faced criticism and are labeled as non-Ghanaians, only to be sought after for their votes during election seasons.
He asked the politicians to avoid discrimination and remember the Kabre communities when the need arose, as he emphasised the importance of inclusive governance and representation.
Nana Amanibo, however cautioned community members who might be tempted to use violence for personal political gain, making it clear that anyone who engaged in such behavior would face the full force of Ghana’s laws.
“This bold stance aims to prevent the manipulation of vulnerable communities for political purposes, ensuring a peaceful and democratic electoral process,” Nana Amanibo said.
Some members engaged by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said it is commendable that Nana Amanibo has taken proactive steps to promote peace and stability in his communities, especially during this critical election period.
