Israel military reports attack on Hezbollah intelligence HQ in Beirut

Tel Aviv, Oct 20, (dpa/GNA) – Israeli forces have attacked a Hezbollah intelligence service headquarters in Beirut, along with an underground weapons factory, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported on Sunday.

Steps had been taken in advance of the attack to limit harm to civilians, including issuing advance warnings, the IDF said. It gave no information on possible casualties, and the claim could not be independently verified.

A video of the attack posted on X, showed a multi-storey building being hit.

The IDF also reported the killing of senior Hezbollah commander in southern Lebanon, Al-Haj Abbas Salama, stating that he had been behind a number of attacks on Israel, and had commanded Hezbollah forces in Lebanon’s border region around Bint Jbeil.

Hezbollah communications expert, Rada Abbas Awada, and Ahmad Ali Hussein, the head of a weapons-producing unit, had also been killed, the IDF said.

“These eliminations are part of the IDF and security forces’ extensive efforts to thwart the build-up of Hezbollah’s weapons stockpiles, which are intended to harm the IDF’s capabilities to defend the State of Israel,” the IDF said.

Hezbollah reported fresh attacks on northern Israel, and air raid alarms were heard in the Israeli port city of Haifa on Sunday.

According to the Israeli army, around 70 missiles were fired from Lebanon into Israel. Some were intercepted by the missile defence system, others hit open areas and sparked fires.
