GPL Week 5: Asante Kotoko go top; Hearts held by Aduana Stars

Accra, Oct. 07, GNA – Kumasi Asante Kotoko defeated Accra Lions 1-0 at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium to lead the 2024-25 Ghana Premier League (GPL) after week five. 

Albert Amoah’s second-half goal was enough to secure all three points for Kotoko, who sit at the top of the league with 11 points after five games. 

Bibiani Gold Stars are tied for first place with Porcupine Warriors, having gained 11 points following a win over Bechem United. 

Accra Hearts of Oak recorded their second consecutive draw of the season after being held at home by Aduana Stars. 

Despite being on top of the game, the Phobians struggled offensively, wasting lots of chances. 

It is now five points for Hearts of Oak as pressure continues to mount on coach Aboubakar Ouattara, who has been heavily criticized by fans. 

Medeama SC dropped their first points of the season after being held by Heart of Lions at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa. 

It was the fourth draw recorded by Heart of Lions this season as the Kpando side maintained their unbeaten run in the new season. 

Nsoatreman FC were the big winners of five as they thumped bottom-placed side Legon Cities 3-1 at the Nana Kromansah Park. 

First-half goals from Anokye Morrison, Walid Fuseni, and Richard Acquah secured maximum points for reigning FA Cup holders, who have six points. 

Daniel Yemoh’s first half strike for Vision FC was enough to secure them a win against Basake Holy Stars at the Nii Adjei Okraku II Park. 

A late strike by Muhammed Hardi rescued a point for Karela United after Godwin Sefah gave Samartex the lead in the first half. 

Former CAF Confederation Cup campaigners Dreams FC continued their awful form this season after suffering a 1-0 home loss against Nations FC.
