Amlakpo, October 08, GNA- The A.M. Akrofi Educational Foundation, a non-government organisation, has allocated GH₵ 100,000 to support 50 local businesses in Amlakpo and Matsekope communities in the Ada East Districts of the Greater Accra Region.
This initiative aims at empowering local businesses and stimulating economic activities in the communities.
Mr Gideon Ayiku Akrofi, the Chief Executive Officer of the foundation said the foundation, which was established in memory of his late father, Mr. Albert Mensah Akrofi, would allocate the monies as grants to beneficiaries.
At a durbar organised at Amlakpo, in Ada, to disburse the grants, Mr Akrofi noted that the amount allocated to the local businesses ranged between GH₵ 1,000 and GH₵ 3,500.
He said the foundation aimed at empowering beneficiaries to grow their businesses without burdening them to repay the support.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to invest wisely, emphasising the expectation of generating profits to contribute to the local economy.
“This initiative is a demonstration of love for one another, as commanded by Christ, and a step towards rebuilding our nation,” he stated.
Mr Akrofi Said the foundation over the years has been instrumental in promoting quality education and community development across the two communities in Ada.
He indicated that since its inception, the NGO has awarded over GH₵ 600,000 in scholarships to deserving students in the area, adding that it has also funded the provision of potable water supply in Amlakpo, in addition to the distribution of textbooks and sanitary pads to pupils.
Reverend Professor Seth Ayettey, the Board Chairman of the foundation and a retired Presbyterian pastor, urged beneficiaries to manage the funds responsibly, stating, “As you receive this generous grant, I urge you to invest wisely in your businesses.
This funding is a valuable opportunity to create sustainable livelihoods, and you must approach this responsibility with diligence and foresight.”
He reminded them that the success of their business endeavours would not only uplift them but also contribute to the development of the communities.
Reverend Samuel Buernor Lawerteh, the board secretary, cautioned them against squandering their funds on non-essential items such as funeral clothes.
“Use this grant to invest in meaningful ventures that will yield returns and foster growth in your lives and communities,” he added.
Mr Robert Atitianti, the Assembly Member for Amlakpo, told the Ghana News Agency that the foundation has made a tremendous impact on the communities, particularly in the areas of education and economic empowerment.
He added that the scholarships and business grants were testaments to their commitment to uplifting communities.
Madam Adede, Ocansey, a beneficiary on behalf of other beneficiaries, expressed their gratitude for the support, noting that the funding would significantly impact their business ventures and care for their families.
