Accra, Sept. 20, GNA – The Ambassador of Denmark to Ghana, Mr Tom Nørring, has inspired the youth to use their digital skills to drive innovative solutions on climate change and support Ghana’s green transition agenda.
“By combining your digital skills and your passion for sustainability, you can help shape the future where technology and the environment go hand-in-hand,” Mr Nørring said.
That, he said, could help bring about solutions that would guide policymakers to make informed decisions on climate actions, help promote energy efficiency, and drive sustainable growth.
He said this at the fourth Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) on Climate Change, at the University of Ghana, on the theme: “Beyond breakdown: youth resilience in the face of climate loss.”
He said the youth could develop new solutions to promote both digital innovation and reduce environmental footprints, adding that they had the power to influence politicians and decision-makers by voicing out their concerns.
Mr Nørring encouraged the youth to be responsible for shaping Ghana’s future by being proactive in climate change and green transition actions by engaging in debates, educating themselves and taking initiatives to cause transformation.
“Climate is one of the biggest challenges we face today, and it’s you, the youth, who will be the most affected and have to live with the long-term consequences. The youth must carry the torch forward. Your commitment and actions today will shape the world tomorrow,” he said.
Dr Abdul-Razak Saeed, UNDP, Head, Environment and Climate Cluster, United Nations Development Plan (UNDP), noted that across the world, young people continued to experience the devastating impact of climate change.
However, he noted that despite the hardships, the youth remained resilient in developing innovative and green solutions to propel a clean and just environment for all.
“UNDP Ghana is dedicated to supporting your effort as a youth to create a more sustainable and equitable future. Together, we can intensify, accelerate and scale up to overcome the challenges posed by climate change and build a resilient future for generations to come,” Mr Saeed said.
