Accra, Sept.8, GNA –  Sonotech Medical and Diagnostic Centre has launched a nationwide breast cancer awareness campaign as part of activities of the 2024 Millennium Marathon at Independence Square.Â
Â
This year’s campaign, which runs from October 1-30, 2024, is themed “It’s Time to Rise” and is part of a coordinated effort to combat the rising prevalence of breast cancer and promote early identification among women.  Â
Â
The campaign also aims to educate women, men, and families on the importance of regular screening, early diagnosis, and effective treatment options.Â
Â
In Ghana, breast cancer is the commonest diagnosed cancer in women and the second leading cause of cancer death in women. Â
Â
About 70% of women diagnosed with breast cancer in Ghana are in advanced stages of the disease due, especially to low awareness, resulting in limited treatment success and a high death rate. Â
Â
A press statement by Sonotech and copied to the Ghana News Agency, emphasised the urgent need to continue efforts in raising awareness on breast cancer.Â
Â
“This year Sonotech is scaling up the campaign that is aimed at screening over 2000 people and also educating at least 5000 people by the end of October. Â
Â
“Over the past eight years of dedicated and sustained campaigning, Sonotech has invested over four million cedis in various activities and support for the general public as a contribution to the fight.Â
Â
“Our interventions have not only given people hope but further provided financial relief to thousands through our subsidised scanning services, considering the economic burden they face.Â
Â
“By allowing them to keep half of the cost of the investigations, we assist them to keep some reserves for other equally important needs,” the statement said.Â
Â
Sonotech also mentioned five objectives of this year’s campaign, which include increasing accessibility, empowering survivors, and educational outreach.Â
