Accra, Sept 03, GNA – Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Health Committee, has issued a 24-hour deadline to the government and the Minister of Health to resolve all maintenance issues that are causing delays in work output at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

He said, “On a more serious note, Korle-bu must be rebuilt. The elevators do not work. Buildings are in disrepair. Buildings are in disrepair. We give the government and the health minister a 24-hour ultimatum to address these national concerns.”

Mr Akandoh, also the National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for Juaboso, made these remarks when he led some members of the Minority on the Health Committee to perform a parliamentary oversight duty of inspecting the hospital on Tuesday.

This was a follow-up to unannounced visit from Monday, September 2.

As a result, the Minority members expressed concerns about the hospital’s facilities, stating that the current situation posed a significant risk to both patients and healthcare staff.

Meanwhile, it was revealed that after Mr Akandoh’s surprise inspection on Monday, some elevators at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital remained inoperative.

During the follow-up visit, the team discovered that elevators at the Radiology Department were not working properly, contrary to previous reports.

The inspection also discovered that the elevators in the Labour Ward were in poor condition.
