Kumasi Sept. 04, GNA-The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has re-emphasized its commitment to ensure that the tertiary education sector is devoid of acts that compromise the integrity of education delivery.

Professor Ahmed Abdulai Jinapor, Acting Director General, Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), who stated this, said the tertiary educational space was the engine for national development and there was a need to protect and preserve its integrity.

“If we corrupt the system, we are corrupting our society and the only way we can do it right is to give managers the necessary impetus to do what is right.

“And that is giving them orientation, opportunities to ask questions and prescribing things the Commission must do.

“The one-fit-all approach will not always work effectively”, Prof. Jinapor stated at the maiden edition of GTEC Summer School in Kumasi.

It was held on the theme “Towards Effective Governance and Quality Management in Tertiary Education Institutions”.

The two-day event was aimed at building the capacities of senior managers of tertiary education institutions including vice-chancellors, principals, Rectors, and administrators in Ghana.

The workshop also afforded the opportunity for recommendations in upgrading and strengthening the tertiary education sector.

Participants were refreshed on in-depth knowledge of tertiary education policy, accreditation administration, quality assurance management, standards and norms, fiscal management, and governance.

Prof. Jinapor said summer school could go a long way to enhance operations at public, and private universities, and other tertiary institutions in conformity to providing quality education for national development.

He was optimistic that the difference in such summer schools would manifest in those who came out or completed the various institutions.

Over the last three years, hundreds of programmes run at the tertiary level were declared unaccredited by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).

The GTEC is taking steps to educate senior officers managing the affairs of institutions towards a sustainable education.
