Police officer arrested over murder of man, 25

Accra, Aug. 19, GNA – The Police have arrested a ride-hailing driver, who was later identified as an off-duty Police officer, for allegedly shooting a male adult at Koans Estate near Kuntunse near Accra. 

The incident occurred about 0400 hours on Sunday, August 18,2024, following an alleged confrontation between Stanley Ahadzi (deceased), and General Constable Smith Gyekye over a fare, a press statement issued by the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service and copied the Ghana News Agency, has said. 

It said, “The body of the deceased is currently deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy, while the suspect is in Police custody as part of the investigation into the incident.” 

“Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, and members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) have visited the family of the deceased to commiserate with them and assured them that the incident will be fully investigated and the officer involved will be made to face justice.” 

A Police clinical psychologist and other officers have been assigned to the family to support them through this difficult time, the press release stated. 

“Once again, we would like to assure the public, especially the family, that justice will be served,” it added.
