Nkwanta (O/R), Aug. 22, GNA – The Nkwanta South Municipal Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has embarked on a sensitization campaign to educate Island communities along the River Volta on the Bagre Dam spillage.
The exercise held in Kabiti, a fishing community in the Municipality, is to alert residents of the possible flood risk associated with the spillage of the dam and to provide them with the necessary safety precautions to minimise damage to lives and property.
Mr Gideon Boafo, Acting Municipal NADMO Coordinator, emphasised the importance of relocating to higher grounds, securing their belongings and staying alert ahead in coming weeks for rising water levels.
He urged the residents to take the necessary precautions to avoid any casualties or losses.
The residents, especially fishermen, expressed their disappointment about the situation after trying to recover from the previous spillage.
They also called on the government to come to their aid by supporting them to regain their losses.
