FoN, SDA visit companies to monitor compliance to Environmental issues

Shama (WR), Aug. 31, GNA – Friends of the Nation in collaboration with Shama District Assembly has organised a monitoring visit to selected companies to assess compliance levels on Environmental policies.  

The monitoring team comprised: Ghana National Fire Service, Physical Planning, NADMO and the Development Planning Unit, among others. 

The team visited companies including quarry sites, clay and sand mining site, fuel filling stations and waste management companies, including Zeal Environmental Services and Zoil. 

In all, the team established that compliance among the companies were in conformity with EPA standards. 

Mr. William Denkyi, the Project Officer from the Friends of the Nation, said the project fell under the ‘Climate Media Collaborative Economic Justice and Community Rights’ and a follow up on a community engagement on some Environmental issues to promote climate sensitive living. 

He noted the need for the companies to hold on to the social licences from the communities and continual engage in order to share in their concerns and profess amicable solutions, especially on climate related community concerns. 

At Zeal Environmental Services, Mr. Kwaku Ennin, the Founder and Board Chairman of the company, said protecting the eco- system was fundamental to ensuring human survival hence the company’s strict adherence to rules and regulations by city authorities.  

DO2 Emmanuel Bonney, the Shama District Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service, expressed satisfaction with the display of various warning signs in the companies visited.  

He said the GNFS from time to time visited and trained them on safety issues and prayed that they kept the standards.
