Accra, Aug. 18, GNA - Reigning Ghana Premier League champions FC Samartex 1996 secured a crucial 1-0 win against Cameroonian giants Victoria United in their first leg preliminary encounter of the 2024-25 CAF Champions League.
Emmanuel Mamah’s second half strike was enough to secure victory for the Ghanaian side ahead of the second leg encounter in Accra.
Coach Nurudeen Amadu’s side were not favourites heading into this clash against the reigning Cameroonian League Champions but defied the odds to secure victory.
Samartex 1996 displayed brilliant defence in the first half, with goalkeeper Kofi Baah making some important saves..
Despite being on the back foot most times in the game, the ‘Timber’ giants from Samreboi took that one good opportunity that fell to Mamah in the second half and held on firmly at the end of the game.
Samartex 1996 would be favourites in the second leg slated for Accra Sports Stadium next Sunday against their Cameroonian counterparts.
The winner of the FC Samartex 1996/Victoria United tie would face either ASGNN of Niger or Moroccan giants Raja Club Athletic in the second round in September.
