Obuasi, (Ash) Aug. 16, GNA – AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine, in partnership with Absa Bank Ghana, has unveiled a groundbreaking e-commerce initiative for women entrepreneurs Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
The initiative is part of the mining giant’s Enterprise and Skills Development Programme, under its comprehensive 10-Year Socio-Economic Development Plan (SEDP).
The objective of this project is to empower female entrepreneurs by enhancing their online business capabilities and fostering a supportive community for growth and collaboration.
Recognising the immense potential of E-commerce, AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine is dedicated to promoting the businesses of female entrepreneurs by providing tailored support in navigating e-commerce platforms.
A statement issued by the company and signed by Mr. Daniel Arthur-Bentum, Acting Community Relations Manager, on Thursday said the project aimed to actively promote the businesses of 40 selected female entrepreneurs in the Obuasi area.
It will also facilitate their transition into the digital marketplace through training sessions where participants will acquire the necessary skills to effectively leverage various e-commerce platforms to expand their reach and boost sales.
The project will enhance the digital literacy of female entrepreneurs by exposing them to cutting-edge digital technologies, which are essential for accelerating market growth.
The Obuasi Mine and Absa Bank Ghana would, therefore, conduct a series of workshops and provide mentorship opportunities to equip entrepreneurs with the skills needed to adapt to the rapidly evolving digital landscape, ensuring their competitiveness and success, the statement said.
The Women in e-Commerce initiative underscored the significance of networking and knowledge sharing, enabling the identification of networking opportunities and fostering collaboration among female entrepreneurs to exchange best practices and learn from each other’s experiences.
The initiative reflected the collective ambition to embark on a transformative journey with profound positive impacts on women, the statement said.
Through the Women in e-Commerce initiative, the main objective is to equip these inspirational women with the tools and resources necessary to thrive in the digital economy, ultimately enhancing their businesses and contributing to Obuasi’s economic advancement.
The Women in e-Commerce project is part of the broader Business Acceleration and Sustainability (BAST) Programme established under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine and Absa Bank Ghana LTD in September 2023.
The project underscores the Obuasi Mine’s commitment to fostering inclusive economic development, supporting local communities, and addressing the unique challenges faced by women in business through the strategic utilization of technology.
