Akatsi (VR), Aug.16, GNA – Residents and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Akatsi South in the Volta Region have expressed a rousing welcome to Mr John Dramani Mahama, the Party’s 2024 flagbearer.

This was after thousands of supporters converged at the Akatsi RC Park on Thursday in anticipation for several hours before the arrival of the NDC leader and his campaign team around 2100 hours.

Earlier, Lawyer Bernard Ahiafor, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Akatsi South and the Parliamentary aspirant of the party in a welcome address, said the NDC as a party must return to power to reset the country.

“All the NDC initiated projects within the constituency have stalled. The health projects, education, roads, and others have been abandoned by this government.”

He said for the projects to see the light of day, the good people of Akatsi South must bring John Dramani Mahama back to bring progress to the area.

“Our Xavi, Twime-Ave Dakpa roads, several school blocks, and electricity extension projects in our area have seen no improvement,” he lamented.

Mr Anthony Owusu, Constituency Chairman of the party, in his speech, said the party in the constituency had become more united.

“The MP, our former parliamentary primaries aspirants, and others have resolved to come together to work for victory,” he said.

He entreated all party members and sympathisers to rally behind the MP and Mr Mahama to turn the negative economic picture of the country into a more prosperous one.

Upon arrival at the RC park, Mr Mahama told supporters that the NPP government had woefully failed Ghanaians despite the promises made.

Mr Mahama, during a short address to the charged crowd, which saw the presence of all Chiefs from the Avenor Traditional Council, said it was time Ghanaians elect an experienced leader, not ‘Mr Try Me.’

He outlined some failed promises such as the ‘1 million One Constituency’ one District one Dam, and others that the NPP government promised Ghanaians.

Mr Mahama, among the several policies and programmes, reiterated the need for every eligible Ghanaian voter to participate in the upcoming December polls to bring back hope and progress.

His tour to Akatsi South formed part of his visit to the Volta, where he is touring all the constituencies across the region.

Several dignitaries, including national party officials, traditional leaders, past government appointees, and party executives, took their turn to call for maximum support ahead of the polls.

The Akatsi South Constituency campaign team for the party was also launched with members tasked to go the extra mile for victory.
