Assemblyman urges colleagues to champion ‘operation clean your frontage’

Tema, July 24, GNA – Mr Charles Amos, the Assemblyman for the Padmore Electoral Area in the Tema Metropolis, has called on assembly members in the Greater Accra Region to sustain the operation clean your frontage initiative in the areas.

Mr Amos said that regular cleaning of houses and workplaces would promote hygiene, prevent the invasion of rodents, and stop the outbreak of communicable diseases; therefore, it was a must to engage in the initiative.

He said this when speaking with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) when he led residents to clean up their vicinity in Tema Community One, site 21, saying that regular clean-up exercise was the only way to promote good health and maintain conducive and good sanitation.

“Together, let’s push operation “Clean Your Frontage in Tema;” if every last Saturday in a month, all the electoral areas hold clean-up exercise by targeting various communities, Tema will be a clean city,” he stated.

He said even if the clean-up exercise would not be every week, it must be done monthly or quarterly to help lift the image of Tema and pleaded with community members to get themselves involved in the communal labour activities.

The assemblyman said the frontage of the stadium had become very bushy and was breeding snakes, scorpions, and other insects and reptiles that were moving into the community, posing threats to the residents.

He cautioned the residents against dumping garbage in the gutters when it rains, as the refuse blocks the drains, which could lead to flooding in the rainy season.

The residents during the exercise swept, cleaned, de-silt choked gutters, and swept the surroundings, including the frontage of the Tema Sport stadium.
