Churches urged to preach unity, responsibility ahead of elections 2024

Tema, May 31, GNA – The Reverend Francis Guggisberg Tetteh, the Chairman of the Tema Local Council of Churches, has urged churches to preach messages of unity and responsibility to promote a peaceful voting experience during the December 7 general elections. 

Rev Tetteh, who is also the senior pastor of the Gateway Baptist Church, emphasized the need for ethical engagement and a nation-building mindset.  

He stated that religious institutions played a critical role in fostering unity and responsible citizenship and implored pastors and ministers to preach messages of unity, tolerance, and civic responsibility. 

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Rev Tetteh noted the importance of churches in shaping the national discourse, noting that the role of religious leaders in speaking the truth to power and promoting ethical engagement during the electoral process was important. 

He also called on individuals to participate in activities promoting good citizenship and contributing to the nation’s development. 

He stressed the need for churches to transcend partisan divides and uphold principles of unity in diversity, adding that they must foster an environment of respect, love, and tolerance, ensuring that congregants from all political affiliations feel welcome and valued. 

Rev Tetteh also underscored the importance of responsible parenthood in shaping the future of Ghana and called on parents to nurture their children with godly principles and civic virtues and encouraged them to uphold their responsibilities in creating a conducive environment for the next generation. 

“Let us be Ghana-centred thinkers, where all that we do will contribute to the growth of the nation Ghana,” he added.
