Accra, April 18, GNA – Mrs Rita Ayorkor Tetteh, the Headmistress of the La Presbyterian Senior High School, has admonished graduates of the “Nye Awo Kpakpa” Skills Training Programme to prioritise discipline and timeliness in order to stay in business.

She said discipline, time-consciousness and meeting targets are essential for successful entrepreneurship.

Mrs Tetteh was speaking at the graduation and presentation of National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) certificates to 32 graduates of the “Nye Awo Kpakpa” Programme at La.

She said the advancement of society demanded that one was able to meet deadlines and set targets in order to stay in business and succeed.

She noted that entrepreneurs who were able to meet their deadlines often stayed in business, and that must be the benchmark for all.

She described as unfortunate, situations where some skilled workers, especially dressmakers were unable to meet deadlines.

Mrs Tettey said, such situations often drove them out of business as their clients would rather opt for already-made clothes on the market.

She challenged the graduands to be exceptional as the training they had received was valuable and had everything necessary for their transformation.

The programme, instituted by Madam Rita Odoley Sowah, the Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, was aimed at addressing unemployment rate in La, by way of offering fee-free training in skills development for the youth.

The goal was to help set them up to earn a decent living.

Madam Rita Odoley Sowah, emphasized that skills development had always been the way to go in sustainable growth.

Madam Sowah also indicated that she was poised to assist more youth in the constituency, and pleaded for space to enable her to expand the skills development centre as more residents had demonstrated strong interest in the programme.

Some of the graduands who spoke with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the training was worthwhile, noting that it had given them the opportunity to be self-reliant. Others had taken advantage of the training to gain a second job.

They commended the MP for the project and called for support for it to be sustained.
