“I will monitor La Hospital Project” — La MP

Accra, Feb 5, GNA – Madam Rita Odoley Sowah, the Member of Parliament (MP) for La-Dadekotopon, has said, she will commit herself to the effective monitoring of works on the reconstruction of the La General Hospital.

She said, as a Government of Ghana project aimed at providing healthcare services to the residents of La and Ghana as a whole, the tax payers’ money must be used judiciously.

Madam Odoley Sowah expressed delight at the commencement of work when she visited the construction site to inspect and have first-hand information.

She said her greatest joy would be to see a well constructed hospital to alleviate the plight of the people.

She recounted the challenges brought about as a result of the demolition of the hospital in 2020, and appealed to residents to remain resolute with her to ensure the successful completion of the project.

Giving an overview of the master layout of the Hospital, Mr Richard Dadey, the Project Engineer, said that the facility comprised the main hospital building and an accommodation of 12 two-bedroom and 14 one-bedroom units, with a living room, kitchen, a toilet and bath for some staff.

He said, the plan also included an oxygen production plant, a services building, a mortuary and a car park.

The Ghana News Agency observed earthmoving machines, concrete mixers and other construction machinery, materials and workers on site.

Estimated to cost 50 million Euros, the 170-bed hospital project is being constructed Poly Changda Overseas Engineering Company, a Chinese Construction firm, is expected to be completed within 28 months.

Mr Dadey, assured the La MP and her team of quality work, and expressed the hope that work for the operationalization of the Out Patient Department by would be completed by October this year.

Background
In July 2020, the La General hospital was pulled down following reports of serious structural problems by its administration.

The delay in the reconstruction of the hospital was as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and its affiliated financial challenges, some government officials have said.
