Vodza (VR), Dec. 1, GNA – Vodza Ecotourism Initiative Group, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), has donated some relief items to flood and tidal wave victims at Vodza in the Keta Municipality of the Volta region.
The items include bags of maize, beans, rice, cooking oil, soaps, and others.
Madam Sese Gadzekpo, Leader of the group, during the donation ceremony, which was held at Vodza Roman Catholic School pavilion, told the Ghana News Agency the move was to help mitigate the numerous challenges faced by the aged, physically challenged, and other flood victims.
“We need to give hope to our people through the little support we have, since they lost enough as a result of the Akosombo Dam spillage,” she said.
She further stated that the objectives of the organisation were to use ecotourism to spur economic development of the area and “one of such events is the annual regatta which attracts tourists from other parts of the country and beyond.”
Madam Gadzekpo, who is also a native of Vodza, appealed to other individuals, corporate organisations, philanthropists, and the government to help solve the pressing need of residents in the area.
Mr Christopher Mensah, the Assembly member for the area, disclosed that the group visited the area earlier and assessed the damages, which included the registration of affected victims.
“A total of 100 people benefited from the donation today and they assured us that more would come for others who are yet to receive any support.”
He commended the Keta and Volta Regional National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) for their support.
He also asked others to give more support to help alleviate the plight of the victims since several properties were lost during the flood.
Some beneficiaries, the GNA interacted with, expressed excitement over the support and thanked the donors for the support.
