Brussels, Dec 01, (BTA/GNA) – Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the number of cyberattacks on Bulgaria has increased 10-fold, MP Denitsa Simeonova of Continue the Change said on Thursday in a hearing of representatives of national parliaments before the European Parliament’s special committee on foreign interference in democratic processes in the EU, including with disinformation.
With the start of the war, cyberattacks have increased significantly and are targeting national and European institutions, with all EU and NATO countries under attack, Simeonova summarised. Bulgaria suffers greatly from Russian manipulation, disinformation, and propaganda campaigns, she added.
EP Communications Director Jaume Duch said that the institution foresees a significant increase in the number of cybersecurity staff in the run-up to the 2024 European elections.
