Prague’s airport operations temporarily interrupted after fire

Prague, Nov. 17, (dpa/GNA) - Operations at Prague Airport were “temporarily suspended due to a fire,” the airport announced on Thursday. 

The fire was located at the indicating beacon of the main runway of Vaclav Havel Airport Prague, according to a spokesperson. 

The airport reports the fire has been extinguished and “the guidance light system power supply is being repaired.” It is expected to be fixed within a a few hours. 

A total of 14 flights were diverted and so far, six have been delayed. An adjacent highway was also closed for firefighters during the extinguishing. 

Traffic at the airport was redirected to another runway, the airport said, allowing regular operations to resume within an hour. 

The Czech Republic’s largest airport was named after playwright and former president Vaclav Havel after he died in 2011. Last year, almost 4.4 million travellers passed through the airport.
