Tamale, July 8 GNA – The newly-elected Northern Regional Executive Officers of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) have been sworn into office to steer the affairs of the Association for the next three years.
They are Mr Yakubu Abdul-Majeed as Regional Chairman and Mr Albert Futukpor as Regional Secretary.
Mr Nelson Adanuti Nyadror and Miss Diana Ngon, who have been coopted into the Regional Executive as Vice-Chairman and Treasurer respectively, were also sworn into office.
His Lordship Justice Richard Mac Kogyapwah, Supervising High Court Judge, Tamale, administered the Oath of Office to the Executive Officers in Tamale on Friday.
Justice Kogyapwah, in a remark after administering the Oath of Office, urged the executive to attach diligence to their work because the Oath they have sworn had its own consequences.
He urged them to endeavour to work in unity and execute their functions creditably.
Justice Kogyapwah assured the new executive that his doors were always open to provide legal assistance to them.
He used the opportunity to appeal to journalists to procure facts from the courts before reporting on court cases to avoid misinforming members of the public, adding “The only place to get the right information and facts about court cases is the court.”
Mr Abdul-Majeed expressed gratitude to the Judge for honouring the Association’s call to swear in the executive officers.
He gave the assurance that they would collaborate to protect all journalists in the region and defend their interests and pledged that they would live up to their core responsibilities.
The Regional Chairman said: “We will not do anything to put the name of the Association into disrepute.”
