Pentecost Sunday: Anglican Bishop jogs Christians’ memory to preach the Gospel

Tamale, June 06, GNA – Right Reverend Dennis Debukari Tong, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Tamale, on Pentecost day jogged the memory of Christians of their mandate to preach the gospel.

He urged them to spread the word of God across nations saying, “the Church is purposed to preach the Gospel of the kingdom throughout the world as a witness to all nations”.

He said the Holy Spirit was available to always teach and remind the Church, about its call to preach the Gospel.

Right Reverend Tong was preaching the sermon on the day of Pentecost on the Anglican calendar to the congregation of the diocese in Tamale on the theme, “The Coming of the Holy Spirit.”

“Pentecost day is the day God sent the Holy Spirit to the early disciples to empower them for the work of the church.

It is also known as Whitsun or Whit Sunday”, he explained and said the day of Pentecost was important in the lives of Christians, to enable them to live by the power of the Holy Spirit.

He referred to chapters 14, 15 and 16 of the books of John in the Bible, to reassure Christians and the Church of the Holy Spirit as their advocate, which led them to make good decisions.

The bishop further entreated the Church members to act on God’s command to “go and preach”, to reach out to others without procrastinating, adding, “we have waited to receive the Holy Spirit, we have received the Spirit, now is the time to go out and share our experiences and talk about the wonders God has done in our lives.”
