Accra, June 30, GNA – The newly elected Executives of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) have been sworn-in to begin their- three-year mandate, with a call on them to work in humility, peace, collaboration and cooperation.

Professor Amin Alhassan, the Chairman of the inauguration ceremony, who made the call after the swearing in, also asked them to ensure that the Association was free from turbulence that had befallen it in the past.

He said unlike some countries, Ghana attained her independence through the ‘pen’ and that demonstrated how important their roles were, hence entreated them to be true to their mandate to serve the Association selflessly.

“The independence of Ghana was through the pen and not the gun like other places. Countries that use other alternatives are still counting their losses. We use the pen and continue to demonstrate that we will use it to hold duty bearers accountable,” he added.

Dr Lawrence Tetteh, Leader of World Miracle Outreach, who led a prayer for the Executives, advised them not to be conceited with their positions, but work in the fear of the Lord and the spirit of service to succeed.

“Also remember that a prayer-less man is a powerless man. As you execute your duties, God says ‘save my face, turn from your wicked ways and don’t use your positions to undermine others and their interests,” he said.

The newly elected Executives are Mr Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, President, Mrs Linda Asante Agyei, Vice President, Mr Edmund Kofi Yeboah, General Secretary, Ms Audrey Dekalu, Treasurer, Mrs Rebecca Ekpe, Public Affairs Officer and Mr Dominic Hlordzi, Organising Secretary.

They swore to be faithful, true to the Association, preserve, protect and defend the constitution of the GJA at all times, and dedicate themselves to the service and wellbeing of the Association.

They also swore not to directly or indirectly communicate or reveal to any person any matter which shall be brought under their consideration or come to their knowledge in the discharge of their official duties or as may be specially permitted.
