Elubo (W/R), June 12, GNA – Mr Matthew Kwao Bentho, the 2016 Parliamentary Candidate for the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) in Jomoro Constituency, has defected to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, the NDC is the most ideal political party in Ghana.
Mr Kwao Bentho declared his intention to quit the PPP at a news conference at Elubo in the Western Region.
He told the media that the NDC had undertaken a lot of development projects than any political party in Ghana and has the development of Ghana at heart.
He said as the 2016 Parliamentary Candidate of the PPP, “I need no one to tell me the NDC is the best political party to belong to and with my experience of sixteen years in active and behind closed doors politics, I have come to firmly resolve that, it is only the National Democratic Congress Party (NDC) that can be trusted with the destiny and the development of this beautiful country, Ghana, hence my decision to defect and join the NDC”
He emphasized that he was not joining the NDC to compete or fight for any position in the party but just to be an ordinary member to support the party to recapture power in 2024.
“I wish to emphatically state that my decision to defect and join the NDC is not to compete in any position but serve the party as an ordinary new party member as any other faithful member will serve”, he pledged.
He also pledged to support the NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for Jomoro, Madam Dorcas Afo-Toffey to succeed.
Mr. Bentho who was the PPP Western Regional Second Vice Chairman in 2012 advised the youth of Jomoro and Ghana at large to stop joining the NPP.
He said the NPP only used the youth of this country only to dump them later.
He, therefore, called on his followers who voted for him in 2016 to join him in the NDC to help Mr. John Mahama to win the 2024 general elections to rescue Ghana from collapsing.
“The Akufo-Addo government is destroying Ghana, today you can’t buy anything, the price of everything has increased, the youth of this country don’t get decent work to do, the youth don’t have any hope in the NPP government, but I still have hope in John Mahama that if Ghanaians elected him as a president in 2024, he will rescue this country from destruction so I will use this medium to call on my followers who voted for me in 2016 to join me in NDC to campaign and vote massively for Mr John Mahama to become president to rescue the country”, he appealed.
