Police administration institutes investigations into Nkronza disturbances

Nkronza South(BE/R) May 26,GNA- The Police Administration has instituted investigations into the Nkronza South disturbances that led to the death of two persons.

They have also asked for an independent post-Mortem to be conducted on the bodies of both Albert Donkor and Victor Owusu to ascertain the cause of their deaths.

Ballistics Experts are also deployed in addition to the existing ones to unravel the causes of the shooting and destruction and how it was done.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Kwesi Ofori Director –General In-charge of Public Affairs of the Ghana police service who stated this at a press briefing in Nkronza South on Thursday said psychiatric nurses had also been deployed to provide psychiatric services to the police personnel and their families.

The Press briefing, he said was to dispel misinformation and to announce efforts the police administration was taking to address the issues in the area.

Mr Ofori noted that based on this mix-ups, the administration had also provided new strategic communication strategies to provide the truthful and unbiased information to attest in supporting police transformation agenda.

He said following the death of Albert Donkor in the Anti-Robbery operations, the Regional police command engaged the family, traditional authorities, opinions leaders and the Youth to exercise restraint as the issue was investigated.

Mr Ofori said in addressing the issues the IGP had dispatched a high profile team led by Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno Director-General of administration to provide strategic leadership for the ongoing operations to restore law and order in the Nkronza South and its environs.

He said while investigations were in progress, the IGP and some members of police management board had visited the area to assess the situation on the ground and engage relevant stakeholders on the matter.

He said the IGP had however urged the families to work with the police and as soon as the investigations were completed, the police would communicate the outcome to the families of the deceased and the public.

He called on members of the public to be circumspective in their commentaries on the matters and desist from taking advantage of the situation to mar the peace and security at Nkronza and its environs.
