Accra, May 11, GNA – Active membership of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) was 16.75 million, representing, 54 per cent of Ghana’s population at the end of 2021, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has said.
The NHIS also observed low hospital attendance, which, was attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This was contained in a press release signed by Mr Richard Barima Sarpong, Communication Manager, Corporate Affairs Directorate at NHIA and copied to the Ghana News Agency.
The press statement also refuted an allegation made by Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Ranking Member on the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health, had made that the NHIS was collapsing.
The statement reassured the public that NHIA management was working continuously to improve the sustainability of the scheme to ensure Universal Health Coverage for all by 2030.
The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) said it was open to discussions with all stakeholders to make the National Health Insurance Scheme work effectively
