Tourism Authority presents Chocolate bars to Greenwich Meridian Presby Church

Tema, Feb. 15, GNA – The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Tema Region, has presented boxes of chocolate bars to the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Greenwich Meridian Congregation in Tema Community One, to commemorate the 2022 National Chocolate week.

The church is located on the Greenwich Meridian Line in Tema.

At the presentation ceremony, Mr. Charles Buabeng, the Tema Regional Director of GTA, said by the virtue of the location of the church on the Meridian line, the Authority had put up measures to use it to draw attention to the meridian as a tourist attraction in Tema.

He said GTA was also in discussions with the Church to establish a marine club to solidify the partnership while emphasizing that the meridian line was not man-made but a natural occurrence.

Mr Buabeng expressed concern that during the port expansion the meridian rock was taken but said there was the possibility of recreating it.

He used the occasion to reiterate the need for the youth to enter agriculture, especially cocoa production, to boost the growth of the local economy and for export.

Mr Myles Moncar, the Clerk of Greenwich Meridian Presbyterian Church, said the replacement of Valentine Day with National Chocolate Day would help the youth to live upright relationships.

Meanwhile, Mr. Charles Obeng, GTA Greater Accra Regional Manager, has explained that the Authority was collaborating with COCOBOD for the celebration of the 2022 National Chocolate Week, which seeks to promote the domestic consumption of Ghana’s chocolate and other cocoa-based products.

He said the theme for celebration: “Eat chocolate, stay healthy, grow Ghana” with the sub-theme “Our Chocolate, Our Health, Our Wealth” is to highlight the benefits of chocolate and other cocoa-based products, draw out the economic potential of the cocoa value chain and promote domestic tourism.

Mr Obeng, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, explained that the celebration should not be limited to the week only but must spread beyond.
