President of Assin Akropong Youth Association renovates school building

Assin Akropong (C/R), Jan. 30, GNA – A block of three-unit classrooms, an office, and a storeroom for Akropong Presbyterian Basic School has been renovated at a cost of (GH¢17,000.00).

Funding of the renovation works was borne by the Assin Akropong Youth Association to ensure that the school was safe, attractive, and conducive for effective teaching and learning.

Other projects envisaged by the Association include the construction of an event centre in the community, which is estimated at GH¢1, 200,000.00 expected to be completed in 36 months.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Frank Asante, the President of the Association, disclosed that the event centre also has a library, conference room, gym, and a restaurant.

Ten percent of proceeds accruing from contributions of members would be channelled to rehabilitation and maintenance of the structures of the school.

Mr Asante an old student of the school, personally denoted 200 exercise books, 150 mathematical sets,150 pens and pencils, and a set of football jerseys to improve the learning.

He said the Association has collaborated with the staff of the school to undertake extra classes for students to equip and improve their reading and writing skills.

Mr John Aqueesi, the head teacher of the school expressed profound gratitude to Mr Asante and the Youth Association for their kind gesture adding that with the new development, the school could now admit more students.

The current population is around 150 students, he added.

Mr Andrew Asare the chairman of the School Management Committee (SMC), said the timely renovation and facelift had left an indelible mark in Assin Akropong.

He called on all old students and indigenes of the town to also contribute their quota in the development of the town.
