Japan Motors and Lakeside Estate support Ghana Police with ten motorbikes

Accra, Jan.31, GNA—Japan Motors and its sister company, Lakeside Estate, have presented 10 brand new high-performance Yamaha motorbikes to the Ghana Police Service.

The Lakeside Estate donated five of the motorbikes with Japan Motors also donating five.

The total cost of the motorbikes is GH¢143,000.

During a presentation ceremony at the Police headquarters in Accra, Mr Salem Kalmoni, Managing Director of Japan Motors, commended the Police for their spirited fight against armed robbery and other social vices in the country.

He appealed to Government to take a second look at the cost of registration of motorbikes, which was almost the same as the registration of cars, which was making it difficult for motorbike owners to register them.

Mr Kalmoni also reminded the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) and the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to, as a matter of urgency roll out the comprehensive training programme on road safety for motorcyclists, which was announced in January last year.

He said the statistics of deaths of motor riders was very high and unprecedented, adding that, training would ensure that motorcycle and tricycle riders would adhere strictly to road traffic regulations to help reduce the increasing rate of road fatalities involving motorcycles.

Dr Prince-Joseph Ayiku, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lakeside Estate, said policing was a shared responsibility and that donations such as those would go a long way to make communities in Ghana safer.

He said Lakeside Estate, with the support of Japan Motors, had built two police stations towards enhancing effective policing in the country.

Dr Ayiku said Lakeside Estate and Japan Motors had taken cognisance of the hard work of the Police hence the donation as part of their corporate social responsibility to support the work of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and his team for the changes he had made since he took over the mantle.

“Lakeside Estate and Japan Motors believe this is the birth of a beautiful relationship with the Ghana Police Service and look forward for further collaborations”, he noted.

“The company has seen your good works and we urge you to continue. Lakeside Estate and Japan Motors are strongly behind you,” he said.

Commissioner of Police (COP) Mr Christian Tetteh Yohonu, Director-General, Administration, received the motorbikes on behalf of the Police administration and expressed appreciation to Japan Motors and Lakeside Estate for their continuous support.
