Cape Coast South MP fetes children to celebrate New Year

Cape Coast, Jan 3, GNA –Hundreds of children within the Cape Coast Metropolis have been feted by Mr George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast South, to celebrate the New Year.

The children, drawn from communities in the area, engaged in singing and dancing competitions, among others.

Winners of the various competitions received goodies such as scholarships, parcels and others to motivate the others to bring out their God-given talents.

They ate varieties of rice with chicken, eggs and banku with fish and drank soft drinks.

Mr Hagan, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency(GNA), said it was good to throw parties for children at the beginning of every year to put smiles on their faces and make them feel important in society.

He said the annual New Year Party with the children, organised by his office, was part of his efforts to bring all children within his Constituency together to promote peace and unity among them.

The MP advised the children to love, care and support themselves in their studies, adding that New Year was the time to eschew bad perceptions and attitudes towards each other.

On the development of children, the MP said it was an important part of his job to nurture the next generation to take charge of Cape Coast in the years ahead.

He said the children were the future of the country and needed attention from stakeholders to become assets to the nation.

Mr Hagan said children’s education was paramount towards achieving the goal hence the donation of a bus to assist them to and from their various schools.

He admitted challenges with the bus but gave the assurance that he would help to improve the accessibility of the bus in all areas soon.
