Ougadougou, Jan 24, dpa/ GNA – President Roch Marc Kabore of Burkina Faso has been overthrown in a military coup.
A spokesman, Kader Quedraogo, said the government has been dissolved and the Constitution suspended.
He said the Patriotic Movement for Safeguard and Restoration, (MPSR), would soon announce when and how the country would return to democracy.
The country’s borders would remain closed and a night curfew imposed, he said.
Earlier in the day, the West African country’s Head of State was driven to a military camp in the capital, after being detained.
Kabore’s government had earlier denied that heavy military firing which occurred on Sunday was a coup.
