Black Bombers to hold justifier to recruit new boxers

Accra, Jan.27, GNA – The National Amateur Boxing Team, Black Bombers, ahead of its preparation for this year’s Commonwealth Games is set to hold a justifier to select boxers for their participation towards the Games.

The ‘justify your inclusion’, slated from February 17-19 at the D.G Hathramani Sports Hall, Accra Sports Stadium, would be open for young boxers who have aspirations of joining the national team for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom (UK).

Akwesi Ofori Asare, Head Coach of the Black Bombers in an interview with GNA Sports outlined their preparedness towards the justifier and the need to recruit some new crop of boxers into the national team.

“The new President of the Ghana Boxing Federation, Bernard Quartey and his team are planning for a championship which would happen in February, to select a new crop of boxers. It is just like to justify your inclusion into the national boxing team, then we can start preparations towards the Commonwealth Games.

“We have young boxers who have been pushing for an opportunity and have the talent to excel in the near future, so I hope this justifier would attain its objective.

“So, it is going to be an interesting competition and I think it would be good for the media to support this course so that we can get the best boxers to represent the country,” he said.

The Black Bombers, have over the years been showing quite an impressive performance in international tournaments with Samuel Takyi winning Ghana’s only medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
