Techiman (BE/R) July 09, GNA – The Bono East Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) has inaugurated some committees to implement a development agenda for the region’s speedy but holistic progress to enhance the socio-economic conditions of the people.
Mr. Kwasi Adu Gyan, the Regional Minister announced when he was addressing the maiden general meeting of the region’s House of Chiefs at Techiman, saying the committees included Education, Business Advisory and Infrastructure.
Mr. Gyan stated a plan to establish a public university in the region was on course because education generally is key for the region’s progress.
He said the plans conformed to the government’s formulated policies to enhance access to higher education to promote human capital development which would immensely benefit the youth in the region.
Touching on the role of chiefs in national development, Mr. Gyan said government’s efforts for national progress would be in vain without the significant contribution of chiefs in maintaining law and order in their respective communities for national peace and progress.
He said the government recognised that prominent roles of chiefs and would thus continue to empower the chieftaincy institution for the traditional leaders’ continuous positive impact on the country’s development.
Pimampim Yaw Kagbrese V, the Paramount Chief of Yeji Traditional Area and President of the House earlier in a welcoming address pledged the House’s commitment to work with the RCC to achieve total development in the region.
He appealed to the RCC to assist for the House to resolve all cases pending before its judicial committee for amicable settlement to contribute for peace and unity to prevail in the region to accelerate its socio-economic advancement.
He emphasised the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19 was prevalent and implored traditional leaders in the region to continue to assist in educating people in their communities about and the need to religiously observe the preventive directives and protocols because the virus could infect anyone, anytime regardless of social status.
