Accra Rotary Club-Labone renovates Nsawam Hospital Children’s Ward

Accra, May 25, GNA – The Rotary Club of Accra-Labone has refurbished the phase two of the Children’s Ward of the Nsawam Government Hospital in commemoration of their 20th anniversary.

The renovation included tiling, replacement of toilet seats and a shower as well as replacing old ceiling fans and fixing a new air conditioner in the Nurses resting room.

The club also fixed new mosquito nets, replaced broken louvers, provided new curtains and painted the ward inside-out.

Mr Calis Arko, Vice President of the Club, said the entire renovation project was done in four weeks at the cost of GH₵27,451.00.

He said the project was the club’s major project, solely funded by members after reaching out to the hospital in 2007 and subsequently adopted the ward.

Mr Arko entreated the management of the ward to ensure that the items were properly maintained and put to good use.

Madam Rosephilo Adomah, Deputy Director of Nursing Services at the Hospital, commended the club for the gesture saying, it would help in improving healthcare services.

“Maintaining quality healthcare requires a serene and beautiful environment and it is therefore refreshing for the Club to refurbish the ward to enhance children’s health care,” she added.

She said the hospital was serving Nsawam and its environs and, therefore, called on other philanthropists to support them.

The Club also handed over a groundwater-based piped water supply system to the people of Dokrochiwa, a farming community in Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region.

The project was funded by the Rotary International USAID Water and Sanitation project at a cost of GH₵573,569.00 to provide potable water to residents in the community, which hitherto had water challenges.

The water supply system is a 50,000 litre storage capacity tank and would serve 3,500 beneficiaries in the community with clean, and potable water.

“Rotary Foundation has made available $1million and the USAID also contributed $1million to be used over a five-year period to provide toilet facilities, water and advocacy, focusing on hygiene promotion, the management and maintenance of the facilities and community mobilization,” he added.

Nana Barima Opoku Agyemang, Chief of Dakrochiwa, thanked the club for their kindness to the community and assured them that the facility would be put to good use to the benefit of the residents.

Nana Agyemang appealed to the Club to help them establish a police station to curb the rising criminal activities in the area.
