Jakarta, April 5, (dpa/GNA) – Rescue teams resumed a search Monday for 15 people still missing after a fishing boat collided with a cargo ship in the waters off Indonesia’s Java Island, an official said.
Two people died and 15 others were rescued after the Barokah Jaya fishing boat hit bulk carrier Habco Pioneer and capsized off Indramayu district on Saturday afternoon.
“The search area has been expanded to cover 33 nautical miles,” said Deden Ridwansah, the head of the search and rescue agency in Bandung.
“We hope that today’s operation will have results,” he added.
Indonesia’s climatology and meteorological agency’s weather forecast has indicated that extreme weather is likely to occur in some parts of Indonesia, including on the island of Java, in the week ahead.
The agency has spoken of the potential for heavy and torrential rain, strong winds and high waves.
