Mexican army seizes plane carrying 1.5 tons of cocaine

Mexico City, Oct. 28, (dpa/GNA) – The Mexican army has seized an aircraft carrying 1.5 tons of cocaine, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Tuesday.

The plane had landed in Chetumal on the Caribbean coast. The daily Por Esto said it was flying low, with no lights on and had no permission to land.

One person who was on board the aircraft was arrested.

Lopez Obrador said the army had previously discovered the entry of three planes into Mexico’s air space, but that only one of them landed.

No information was given on the route of the plane.

Several planes carrying drugs believed to come from South America have been discovered this year in the same region of Mexico, which borders Belize, as well as in northern Guatemala.
