Accra, Sept. 30, GNA – The next government of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), under John Dramani Mahama, will usher Ghana into an era of shared prosperity to ensure that Ghanaians reap the fruit of their labour.
“We need to turn our beloved country, Ghana, into an advanced nation. The first step is to eradicate extreme poverty.
“We need to make sure that all Ghanaians are protected during the transition towards a fully modern Ghana and unite as one people to resume our journey towards building the future of our nation,” Mr Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, the NDC Director of Elections, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra.
Mr Afriyie Ankrah said the NDC Election 2020 Manifesto had all the ingredients to ensure social justice and equality and urged the electorates to endorse the Party’s return to power.
He said Ghanaians needed new opportunities to develop their talents and skills adding that “transitioning from the current economic model to a knowledge-based economy will provide exactly that.”
“We will fight the deleterious effects of the poor economic management and change the current model to unleash the creativity of every Ghanaian”.
Mr Ankrah said the results of the poor economic management at the micro-level for four years had been hardship, spiralling cost of living, high unemployment, massive job losses and a generally harsh economic climate.
He said the NDC had the record and experience to turn things around to bring relief to the suffering masses of Ghana though prudent macroeconomic measures anchored on sound management.
“Inclusive growth will be restored to appreciable levels, while the business environment will be made friendly again. The long-suffering Ghana cedi will be stabilised and strengthened,” Mr Ankrah said.
“The private sector will receive the biggest job-related stimulus package in Ghanaian history”.
Mr Ankrah said under the leadership of Mr Mahama and Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman, the financial sector would be sanitised and emphasis placed on growing Ghanaian participation in the economy.
“Job creation will be the predominant preoccupation of the next NDC government as a way of enhancing the livelihoods of our people, under a One Million Jobs, EDWUMA PA Plan,” he said.
Mr Ankrah said there would be major annual recruitment of young Ghanaians into an expanded and productive public sector based on a carefully conducted human resource gap analysis.
The NDC government would launch a national apprenticeship programme that would train technically skilled human resource for rapid industrialisation, job creation and entrepreneurship, he said.
He said the Party had done this before when it achieved the most stable economy with the highest growth rates and the longest sustained period of single-digit inflation.
He, therefore, appealed to the electorate to vote massively for the NDC flagbearer and the parliamentary candidates in the December 7 polls.
