Ho, June 09, GNA – Zoomlion Ghana Limited has started the disinfection of military and educational facilities in the Volta and Oti Regions against the coronavirus disease.
The 20-day exercise, which started on Tuesday, June 09, is an initiative of the Military High Command, and the Ministry of Education.
Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, said at a press conference in Ho ahead of the exercise that, a total of 55 military installations including barracks, training commands and operation centres in the Regions would be disinfected.
A total of 2,654 public and private basic schools would be also benefit from the exercise, as well as 32 tertiary institutions, and 100 second cycle schools in the Regions.
The Regional Minister said previous mass disinfections undertaken in the markets, offices, public places, police facilities and some tertiary institutions in the Region, were very successful, and called on local government heads to help realise the objective of the programme.
Dr Letsa said whiles Government was investing resources in fighting the coronavirus, it was important for the populace to meet the efforts half way by observing the preventive protocols.
Mr Solomon Denyo, Volta and Oti Regional Manager for Zoomlion, said classrooms and dormitories would be sanitised against the coronavirus and bedbugs.
He added that the Company was in talks with local authorities to ensure commercial vehicles were disinfected regularly to stop the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, a Ho Municipal COVID19 multi-taskforce, comprising military and police personnel has started street patrols to ensure people adhered to preventive protocols, especially the wearing of nose masks.
The Volta Region as at Sunday June 07, 2020, had 126 confirmed COVID 19 cases with 87 cases on treatment, 37 recoveries and two deaths.
