Veep congratulates Muslim community for successful Ramadan

Accra, May 25, GNA – Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia on Monday congratulated all Muslims across the world for their sacrifices and endurance throughout the Holy Month of Ramadan.

He prayed that Allah accepted their sacrifices and supplications.

Vice President Bawumia told the media in an interview that the Ramadan was one of the pillars of Islam, therefore, it was obligatory for every Muslim to fast and seek Allah’s blessings, except those with medical conditions.

He said although the COVID-19 pandemic restricted Muslims from engaging in congregational prayers, but it did not stop them from having intimacy with Allah.

He prayed that a vaccine would be discovered for the treatment of COVID-19, saying; “My prayer is that this disease will disappear as quickly as possible”.

Commenting on government’s economic performance over the past three and half years, Dr Bawumia said the President Akufo-Addo-led government has performed tremendously, culminating in massive employment, reduction in inflation and exchange rate, as well as provision of free water and subsidy on electricity for Ghanaians during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“So this year’s elections would be fought based on records, corruption and competence and I believe President Akufo-Addo’s government has a splendid and fantastic record,” Dr Bawumia said.

The Vice President expressed Government’s determination to resource democratic institutions and thus, cited the Electoral Commission (EC) as one of the institutions government has resourced to ensure free, fair and transparent electoral process this year.

He underscored the need to allow the EC to work independently to ensure the December 7 Election was organised peaceful, devoid of violence and acrimony.

Vice President Bawumia wished all Muslims Eid Mubarak and entreated them to observe the health and safety protocols including frequent washing of hands with soap under running water, covering one’s mouth when coughing and sneezing and observing social distancing to avert the spread of the respiratory disease.
