Tamale, May 20, GNA – An exercise has begun to fumigate Police installations including cells across the Northern Region as part of efforts to prevent the outbreak of diseases.
The exercise, which will span for four days, is part of the government’s intervention against the spread of the COVID-19 in the country.
Zoomlion, a waste management company, has been contracted to undertake the exercise.
Alhaji Alhassan Issahaku, Northern Regional Coordinating Director, who spoke on behalf of the Regional Minister to launch the exercise in Tamale on Wednesday, said the country was determined to contain the disease, hence, the exercise.
A few weeks ago, the government fumigated markets and senior high schools across the country. The exercise at the Police installations is to step up the country’s efforts to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
By May 19, the country’s COVID-19 case count stood at 6,096 with 1,773 recoveries.
Alhaji Issahaku who spoke about the significance of the work of the Police said they risked their lives to protect the population, hence, the need to keep them safe to continue o protect the citizenry.
Commissioner of Police (COP) Mr Timothy Bonga, Northern Regional Police Commander said the Police Administration was committed to ensuring the safety of personnel to effectively enforce the laws, lauding the fumigation exercise at the Police installations across the region.
COP Mr Bonga said the exercise would boost the morale of personnel to enhance their activities and operations.
Mr Peter Dawuni, General Manager of Zoomlion in the Northern Region encouraged the public to take a keen interest in the response against the disease to ensure success.
