COVID-19: Bono RCC presents relief items to Christian Council

Sunyani, May 18, GNA – The Bono Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) has presented food items to the Christian Council of Churches in the region, as government scales up measures to control the nationwide spread of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).

The items comprising bags of rice and sugar, cooking oil, boxes of milo, cartons of milk, sardines and other consumables are to be distributed to the clergy and other church leaders.

Mrs Evelyn Ama Kumi-Richardson, the Bono Regional Minister, said government is aware that the indefinite closure of churches due to the COVID-19 was affecting the socio-economic livelihoods of some of the men of God, hence the need to provide relief items to motivate them to continue to pray and intercede for the nation and promote spiritual development of Ghanaians.

Mrs Richardson said government acknowledges the contributions of churches in nation-building and would lift the ban on public gathering as and when necessary.

She urged the populace to strictly adhere to government restrictions on the COVID-19 and also promote personal hygiene by washing their hands with soap regularly under running water and use hand sanitizers frequently.

Mrs Richardson said observing the physical and social distancing would help control individual infection of the disease and advised all especially market women and traders to do so.

Right Reverend Dr Festus Yeboah-Asuamah, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Sunyani and Chairman of the Council, and Dr Kwabena Ofosu-Addo, the Brong-Ahafo Presbyterian Chairperson, who received the items, thanked the RCC for the assistance and assured the items would be supplied to the beneficiaries.
