Wli waterfalls deserted on Easter Monday

Wli (V/R), April 14, GNA – Wli waterfalls, highest waterfall in West Africa for the first time in decades has been deserted by revelers on Easter Monday due to the COVID-19 disease.

A visit to the Falls by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday saw the facility under lock and key.

Mr. Kuyorwu Lambert, Assembly Member for the Wli Afegame Electoral Area said the community had made a public announcement to caution natives not to visit the Falls for any activities.

He said a community taskforce had been set up to guard eight unapproved routes from the community to the Republic of Togo and the Falls.

Mr. Edmund Nyavor, a food vendor told the GNA that the ban on activities at the Wli waterfalls had grounded businesses because festive occasions like Picnic Day would have accrued him a revenue more than GH¢ 1,000.00

A restaurant, Big Foot Safari Lodge located in Wli, which plays host to foreign and local tourists was also closed down.

Togbega Lo I, Paramount Chief of Wli Traditional Area said the 2020 Easter Monday and Tuesday activities had been suspended to prevent spread of the virus.

Wli waterfalls, which cascades from a height of about 80m is mostly visited on holidays and festive occasions including Easter Mondays.
