“Joe Dakota” laid to rest

Accra, April 18, GNA – Jonathan Nii Ankrah – former Ghana and Hearts of Oak star has been laid to rest, after he died from kidney problems two weeks ago.

Nii Ankrah known as “Joe Dakota” or “Afro Joe” was laid to rest in Maryland, United States of America (USA) on Friday, April 17, 2020.

The former Hearts of Oak player, died in USA on Thursday April 9, 2020.

Nii Ankrah, 85, was buried with a few family members around due to the regulation on public gathering as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He joined Hearts of Oak in 1964, with a generation of the likes of Amusa Gbadamodi, Abeka Ankrah, Robert Foli, Joe Ghartey, Prince Amartey, Mike Alhassan, Nii Tei Lartey and others.

The late Nii Ankrah together with the late John Eshun, and Oliver Acquah were part of Ghana’s team to the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico.

He left for the USA after he ended his career with Hearts of Oak.
