Aiyinasi (W/R), April 18, GNA – As part of efforts to prevent the spread of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, the Ellembelle District Assembly has outlined pragmatic measures to enforce the safety protocols at market centers in the area.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) Mr Kwasi Bonzoh who chairs the Ellembelle District Health Public Committee, led the District Police Command, officials from the Assembly, the traditional council and the media to enforce social distancing to avoid overcrowding at major market centers at Aiyinasi and Asasetre.
The operation started last Tuesday at the Aiyinasi market center, continued on Wednesday at Asasetre and today Friday at Aiyinasi all to ensure that traders at the market centers complied with the social distancing protocol in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
For hours, the team led by the DCE, walked through the market centers to space out traders and buyers.
Mr.Bonzoh also placed Veronica buckets, hand sanitizers and liquid soaps at vantage points of the market centers and entreated all traders and buyers to wash their hands under running water with liquid soap and sanitize their hands.
The Assembly has also expanded the market centers and acquired a large tract of land to relocate some of the traders to the auxiliary market centers to ease congestion.
Later the DCE visited some communities where he positioned the Veronica buckets and liquid soap plus tissue papers.
Speaking to the GNA after inspecting the social distancing protocol at Aiyinasi,Mr. Bonzoh said the Assembly would ‘move heaven and Earth’ to contain the spread of the virus.
He said the Assembly has also restricted travellers on motorbikes to only one person.
The DCE urged traders at the market centers to observe measures put in place by the Assembly to avoid any outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the District.
