COVID-19: Sekyere-Kumawu strengthens education

Oyoko (Ash), April 21, GNA – The Sekyere-Kumawu District Assembly has embarked on intensive educational campaign on the coronavirus to ensure that people stay safe.

The educational campaign is focused mostly on drinking spots, markets, restaurants and food joints to monitor and ensure that people adhered strictly to the social distancing protocol and other preventive measures outlined by the government to contain the spread of the virus in the country.

Mr Samuel Addai Agyekum, speaking at one of such educational campaigns at Oyoko, said the assembly, together with the security agencies were working to ensure that operators of drinking spots and food joints complied with the social distancing directives.

He said drinking spots, local food joints and entertainment centres were areas, where people converged in large numbers and there was the need to strengthen monitoring and supervision to ensure that operators worked under the protocols to promote safety.

Mr. Agyekum said the assembly would do everything within its powers to ensure that the virus did not spread in communities in the district and appealed to operators of such facilities to strictly comply to prevent people from catching and spreading the virus in the district.

He advised them to provide Veronica buckets, hand sanitizers, soaps and tissues for their patrons to use.

Mr. Lawrence Adinku, District Director of Health Services appealed to community members to observe all the preventive protocols to prevent them from catching and spreading the virus in their communities.

Superintendent Mr Asare Bediako, District Police Commander said patrons of drinking spots would no longer be allowed to sit and drink at the bars.

They should rather, buy and go home to enjoy their beverages.

This, Mr Bediako said was to ensure that people complied with the social distancing protocol and urged the people to cooperate with the security taskforce that would be in charge of monitoring and enforcement of the new directives by the district assembly.
