Accra, April 23, GNA – The Christian Council of Ghana will, on Friday April 24, lead the ecumenical bodies in Ghana for a three-day national fasting and prayer to intercede for the nation and the world towards the fight against COVID-19.
The prayer meeting, which would also involve other para-church groups, would be held on the theme: “Oh God, Heal Our Land,” taken from 2 Chronicles 7:13-14.
A statement signed by the Most Reverend Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo, Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana, and made available to the Ghana News Agency, said the upcoming prayer session was to enable believers to continue to seek the face of God “until the deadly virus is eliminated”.
It said since the whole country embarked on a national fasting and prayer on March 25, under the directive of President Akufo-Addo, the nation had seen an improvement in the rate of COVID-19 recoveries as well as the lifting of restrictions on movement in some parts of the country.
“As little as these successes may seem, we believe that it is evidence of the Lord’s intervention in our situation. We must, therefore, continue to seek His face until the deadly virus is eliminated”.
The Council appealed to the media and the public to join in the prayer and fasting to intercede once again for the country and other nations of the world.
Presently, confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country has climbed to 1,154 from 1,042, with the number of recoveries also growing from 99 to 120, while the deaths still remain nine.
The state has, however, lifted the three-week partial lockdown imposed on Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi areas due to successes chalked in the detection and management of the virus as well as for economic reasons.
