Accra, April 30, GNA – Barry Callebaut Ghana Limited and Nyankopa Cocoa Buying Limited, a cocoa processing company, has presented items worth $25,000.00 to the Cocoa Board to be distributed to cocoa farmers across the country.
The items include; veronica buckets, liquid soaps, and tissue rolls to help the farmers to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
Mrs. Charity Sackitey, the Managing Director of Barry Callebaut Ghana Limited said the company was contributing to the health and economic well-being of the farmers and would continue with the gesture to save the cocoa supply chain.
She said handwashing was a basic preventive measure against the spread of the virus and that the presentation would support the safety of the cocoa farmers and their families, who were important partners of the company.
Mrs. Sackitey said the company had supported various health facilities in the cocoa-growing communities.
Touching on the economic front, she said the company was complementing efforts of the Cocoa Board and government through farm improvement techniques like under-planting, pruning, and community nurseries.
Mr. Joseph Boahene Aidoo, the Chief Executive Officer, Ghana Cocoa Board commended the company for the gesture and pledged that the items would be given to the farmers to practise regular hygiene to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease.
He appealed to other corporate entities to support the fight against the pandemic for businesses to resume.
