Accra, March 31, GNA – The usual hustle and jostle at Teshie, a suburb of Accra in the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly, was absent as movement is curtailed as part of measures to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
This is due to an announcement made by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Friday, March 27, for a 14-day partial lockdown of some parts of the country believed to be the hot zones for the spread of the COVID-19.
The Ghana News Agency monitoring team observed during a tour of Teshie Township that, most shops, food joints and lorry stations were not in operation. Mobile, a popular bus station in the municipality was utterly quiet.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mr Glory Tetteh, a driver, said, he wasn’t going to work for the next two weeks due to the lockdown.
He said he wasn’t sure the number of passengers he would get in this lockdown period as they were urged to reduce the number of passengers they normally take.
“So l prefer to stay at home to have some quality time with my family and also to rest as I hardly get a break from work,” he stated.
Madam Rita Mensah, a trader, said she was overwhelmed with the sales she made over the weekend prior to the lockdown.
She added that, she had therefore brought some of her goods home to serve those in her neighborhood who couldn’t stock their homes and those who would prefer buying in bits.
The GNA also observed that most residents were adhering to the directives of the President by being indoors as the usually busy township was quiet.
The directive also affected areas such as Tema, Kumasi, Obuasi and some part of Awutu- Senya East Municipality (Kasoa).
