Regional hospital in Sunyani cries for blood pints

Sunyani, March 27, GNA – Mr Abdul Ganiwu, Head of the Blood Bank at the Regional Hospital in Sunyani has appealed to the general public to donate blood to re-stock the bank of the facility.

“Regional hospital is in dire need of blood. All our fridges are empty and we don’t have any other alternatives for emergency situation and we are begging the general public to donate blood”, he told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Sunyani.

He noted that because of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), voluntary donors had not donated blood for some time now.

Mr. Ganiwu said most often, the facility got blood from the public through blood donation exercises, but added that the ban on public gatherings had affected everything.

”Individual blood donors are also scared to donate blood because of the COVID-19”, he said and appealed to both regular donors and the general public to willingly walk in to donate to save emergency situations.
